Who regulates barbers in Yukon?

No body licenses barbers. Yukon is the only jurisdiction besides Ontario that Job Bank names for barber trade certification, and there it is voluntary: “available, but voluntary, in the Yukon,” in the words of the Job Bank Yukon page. The Government of Yukon issues certificates of qualification in designated trades.

How do you get certified as a barber in Yukon?

Apply to the Government of Yukon to certify as a journeyperson in a designated trade, either after an apprenticeship or with enough documented hours, then pass the exam. Yukon’s site does not allow automated checks, so confirm current hours and fees with the territory directly.

Is a barber different from a hairstylist in Yukon?

On paper, yes: Job Bank lists separate voluntary certification for barbers and for hairstylists in Yukon. Only the hairstylist certificate is a Red Seal trade, so it is the one that travels.

Can an out-of-province barber work in Yukon?

Yes. No certificate is required to cut hair for pay in Yukon.

What else does a Yukon barbershop need?

Check business licensing and any health inspection requirements with your municipality before you open.
