Rebook rate

Rebook rate is the share of finished appointments where the client books their next visit before leaving the shop. It is measured at the chair, not weeks later.

Also called: prebook rate, rebooking rateUpdated

Rebook rate, explained

The formula is appointments that ended with a future booking ÷ appointments completed. The window matters: a client who books three days later on their phone is a returning client, but they are not a rebook. Rebook rate only counts the ones who left with a date already held, which is why it predicts next month's calendar better than any other single number.

Rebook rate is the leading indicator that client retention rate confirms three months late. A booked date removes the moment where a client has to decide to come back, and that moment is where most churn happens. It also tightens visit cadence, because the next cut lands on the right week instead of whenever they remember.

The mistake shops make most is asking. "Want to book your next one?" is a yes-or-no question and gets a no about half the time. Offering the slot as a decision already made — same day, same time, three weeks out, does that work — flips the default without any pressure, and the automated reminder does the rest.

In BarberFlow

BarberFlow Loops can fire on service completed and send a one-tap rebooking link by email, text or push notification with an optional delay. A recurring series holds the same slot for the clients who come on a fixed rhythm. Both remove the ask from the barber's mouth.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good rebook rate for a barber?

Shops that treat rebooking as the default rather than a question usually land well above 50% of completed appointments. The useful comparison is your own rate last quarter, since the mix of walk-ins and regulars moves the number between shops.

How do you increase rebook rate without being pushy?

Offer the specific slot instead of asking the yes-or-no question: same day, same time, three weeks out. Making the next visit a decision the client only has to confirm removes the ask without any pressure.

Is rebook rate the same as retention rate?

No. Rebook rate counts clients who booked before leaving the shop, and retention rate counts clients who came back at all over a period. Rebook rate moves first and retention follows it.
